Pakistani army expressed “lot of pain and anguish” after hearing that a special court has sentenced retired General Pervez Musharraf to death, who “can surely never be a traitor”.
“Armed Forces of Pakistan expect that justice will be dispensed in line with Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” the statement added.

Musharraf was apparently denied his fundamental rights in the legal process, which led to Tuesday’s verdict in the high treason case, a statement released by ISPR, the Pakistani army’s press unit, said.
The former Pakistani president, who came to power in a bloodless military coup and ruled for almost a decade, stood accused of subverting the Pakistani constitution by declaring state of emergency in 2007. A special three-member court ruled him guilty and sentenced to capital punishment. The verdict was passed with Musharraf absent and may be appealed.
