Riot police and demonstrators have clashed amid ongoing mass protests by French unions across the country. Footage from Paris shows protesters hurling objects at police, and officers charging in response.

Huge crowds turned out on Thursday to protest against the government’s proposed pension reforms in what has been dubbed the biggest such action seen in France for decades. The widespread protest crippled transport services across the country, and is expected to continue until Monday.

The CGT union said around 1.5 million people marched in support of the protest, while the interior ministry estimated the figure as 700,000.
