At least three people have been shot at a high school in Santa Clarita, California. Police have apprehended the suspect following an hour-long manhunt.
Police responded to a shooting at Saugus High School, around 40 miles north of Los Angeles, early Thursday morning. Local media reports between three and seven casualties, but police have not yet confirmed the number of victims definitively.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated at the time that the suspect, an Asian male in “black clothing,” was at large, and was last seen at the location. Around an hour later, Sheriff Alex Villaneuva said that the suspected shooter was in custody and was “being treated at a local hospital.”

The suspect is “a member of the student body,” ABC7 reported, citing Villanueva.
Neighboring schools had been placed on lockdown, and the Sheriff’s Department advised locals to avoid the area as police responded. Nearby residents were asked to lock their doors and remain indoors.

Video footage from the scene showed lines of students being evacuated with their hands over their heads, and paramedics wheeling what appeared to be wounded students out on gurneys.
Around 2,440 students are enrolled at Saugus High School, which serves the city of Santa Clarita.
